Yes, a hotel restaurant can be awesome!

Updated: Feb 20

Let’s be cliché for a moment – is there anything better than brunch?

Yes, I have read Anthony Bourdain’s book several times, warning that Sunday brunch is nothing more than days old left-overs given one last chance to be whipped together in a desperate attempt to be something delicious before becoming trash. For me, brunch is so much more than food. It is the relaxing, comfortable, leisurely Sunday meal that you go to just because you have the time, money, and complete lack of plans that day. And…. day drinking! I am a firm believer that brunch any way other than drunk is just stupid.

So it’s Sunday morning. The Viking is over, and life is pretty damn good. Restaurants recently went back to full capacity, and we know from previous weeks’ attempts that brunch usually requires a long wait. Resy to the rescue! We were able to see a spot open at (redacted) Lititz, PA. We have been there a few times for dinner, and we were super excited to finally try their brunch.

Although cocktails were consumed, I failed to get pictures. Just know – they are perfectly adequate. Nothing groundbreaking, but definitely a mighty fine bloody mary.

We arrive, and like always, the host is prompt and courteous, and we are shown right to our seats. Overall, the staff is always pleasant, but you can definitely feel the strain of being understaffed. I hold no blame on them, as the entire country is experiencing a staffing shortage, but some places are better at covering for it than others.

FOOD!

The Viking, an adventurous eater, but still a creature of habit, ordered the egg benedict. However, this was an upgraded version!

Pork Belly Benedict: house smoked pork belly, hollandaise, sundried tomato and basil pesto

I mean, it has the best foods in the universe on one plate: pork belly, eggs and hollandaise. And it did not disappoint! Personally, I didn’t feel the pesto was necessary – they should have stopped with sundried tomatoes, but I am not mad at it!

Being quite safe myself, I got an omelet.

House Omelet: 3 farms eggs w/ smoked ham, spinach, mozzarella; finished w/ a mesquite hollandaise & focaccia breadcrumbs

IT’S SO FLUFFY I’M GONNA DIE!! Seriously. Fluffiest. Omelet. Ever. The mozzarella made it a bit bland, I think a nice sharp cheddar would have been better, but those breadcrumbs… DAMN. Freaking amazing omelet.

What are those things on the side of both of our plates, you may ask? Homemade tator tots for $6 each order. Normally I am a whore for tator tots – the crispier the better. When these came out, I wasn’t impressed. They did not look like my favorite processed and shaped tator tots that taste like oil and crunch and not much else. Boy, was I wrong! They are little puffs of what I can only guess is mashed potatoes and cheese inside… but not dense like perogies. More like little clouds of carb heaven, crisp and creamy, soft and delicious.

Overall, a big fan and can’t wait to return to try more of the menu. The only downside to this place is just an ounce of pretention, but when did that ever hurt anyone?
